Acton-Bond was born on November 27, 1861, in Toronto, Canada. He married Eve Tame on August 2, 1909, and they had four children together. His children included Brandon Acton-Bond and Michael Acton-Bond, with his eldest child being Marian Acton-Bond. His second eldest child, Josephine Acton-Bond, graduated from the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art in 1933.
