Born Gladys Ruth Allen on February 7, 1907, in Manchester, England, she eventually moved to the United States. Adrianne was married to Raymond Massey from 1929 to 1939, and they had two children: Daniel Massey and Anna Massey. After her divorce, she married her divorce lawyer, William Dwight Whitney, in 1939, and they remained together until his death in 1973.
