Adrienne Marden

Adrienne Marden was an American actress who is best known for her roles in Matinee Theatre, The Name of the Game, and Madame Spy. Born on September 2, 1909, in Cleveland, Ohio, she had a career that spanned several decades until her passing on November 9, 1978.

Adrienne Marden, originally named Mabel Adrienne Baruch, had a diverse family background. Her parents were Lenora I. Stein and Ralph Adrian Marden, and she had Jewish and Colonial American heritage. She was married twice, first to Whit Bissell and later to Wendell Holmes, and had two daughters named Kathy Eldridge Bissell and Victoria Lenore Bissell.

Career

Marden began her performance career on stage at the age of 17, appearing in the original Broadway production of “The Women.” After moving to Hollywood in 1943, she regularly acted in films and later directed at the Cleveland Playhouse. In 1966, she established The Player’s Production Company, notable for being the only professional touring company supported by the California Arts Commission.

Death and Legacy

Adrienne Marden passed away from a heart attack on November 9, 1978, in Los Angeles, California. She left a significant mark on film and theatre, being remembered for her contributions as both an actress and a director. Her work continues to influence aspiring performers in the industry today.
