Aglaja Schmid was married to Rudolf Steinboeck from 1967 until his death in 1996. She had a rich family background; her father was a musician and her mother a teacher. Schmid began her acting career on stage in 1945 at the Theater in der Josefstadt and was later an ensemble member of the Wiener Burgtheater from 1956 to 1989. She was celebrated as ‘Vienna’s most poetic actress’.
