Alain Barrière was born Louis Allain Bellec and married Agnès Cohen-Solal in February 1975. The couple opened a nightclub-restaurant in a converted castle in Brittany. They had one child, and Agnès was the cousin of well-known figures Annie Cohen-Solal and Lyne Cohen-Solal. Barrière faced financial struggles due to tax problems stemming from bad advice, despite their business being successful.

Barrière began his career as a singer in 1962 with his song “Elle était si jolie.” His breakout came in 1975 with “Tu t’en vas,” which became a hit across France and Western Europe.
