Personal and Family Life

Albert Lieven came from a mixed heritage with a German mother and a French father who was a doctor. He initially studied biology at Berlin University but later left that path for a career in acting. Lieven had four marriages—his first was to actress Susan Shaw, with whom he had one child. He also had a small farm in Devon, England, following his career.

Career

Lieven started his stage career in 1928 and, due to the rise of the Nazis, fled to England where he continued acting. Although successful, many roles cast him as one-dimensional villains, particularly in British films portraying Nazi characters. Despite this, he remained active in both England and Germany, building a solid acting reputation.
