Calhoun began her film career with Vitagraph in New York during the late 1910s, succeeding in an industry that often emphasized stage experience. She gained early training through several Broadway plays, which led to her breakout role in the film “Princess Jones” (1921). Over her career, she appeared in nearly 50 films, primarily during the silent era, with her last film “Now I’ll Tell” (1934) being a talkie. She chose to retire following this performance.
