Anatoliy Azo

Anatoli Azo was an American actor known for his roles in “Kak vas teper nazyvat,” “Emeilyan Pugachev,” and “Svet v kontse tonnelya.” Born on October 31, 1934, in Leningrad, Russian SFSR, he became a prominent figure in the Russian film industry.

Personal and Family Life

Anatoli Azo was born into a family of Estonian heritage in St. Petersburg. He had aspirations of becoming an actor from a young age, despite his parents wanting him to pursue a stable job as a metal worker. Azo was also a skilled athlete, achieving success as a boxing champion in Leningrad.

Career

After graduating from the Leningrad Institute for Theatre, Music and Cinema in 1958, Azo began his career on the stage before joining Lenfilm Studio. He gained fame for his performance as a spy in the film “Kak vas teper nazyvat,” highlighting his talent on screen. Apart from acting, he enjoyed sculpting and collected wooden figurines, showcasing his artistic interests beyond performance.

Death and Legacy

Anatoli Azo passed away on November 25, 2007, in St. Petersburg due to a brain hemorrhage. He is buried in the Severnoe cemetery in the city. His contributions to Russian cinema and theatre are remembered by fans and colleagues alike.
