André Deed was born on February 22, 1879, in Le Havre, France. He was married to Valentina Frascaroli from 1918 until his death in 1940. Deed started his career in the entertainment industry as a singer and acrobat before transitioning to film.

Career

Deed began his film career in 1905 and quickly gained fame as one of France’s first comic film stars. He was particularly well-known for his character Cretinetti, which endeared him to audiences in Portugal and France. However, his popularity declined by 1915, leading to fewer screen appearances.

Death and Legacy

André Deed passed away on October 4, 1940, in Paris, France, at the age of 61. Despite his significant contributions to the early film industry, he died largely forgotten and in financial trouble. His work, however, laid the groundwork for future comedic performances in cinema.
