Anthony Herrera was married to Basha from 1985 to 1990, but they later divorced. He was the father of actress Gaby Hoffmann, although he remained largely estranged from his family. Herrera’s ancestry includes Puerto Rican, Spanish, German, and English roots.

Health Challenges and Advocacy

In 1997, Herrera was diagnosed with a rare and often deadly type of non-Hodgkins lymphoma. He underwent multiple stem cell transplants and achieved remission for ten years. In addition to his acting career, he wrote a book titled The Cancer War and advocated for federal funding for stem cell research, even testifying before the U.S. Congress on the issue.
