Army Archerd

Army Archerd was an American actor and producer who is best known for his roles in Escape from the Planet of the Apes, Burke’s Law, and Gable and Lombard.

Personal and Family Life

Army Archerd was born on January 13, 1922, in Bronx, New York City. He graduated from the University of California, Los Angeles in 1941 and later served in the United States Navy during World War II. He was married to Joan Carol Paul from 1944 until their divorce in 1969, and they had two children. He then married Selma Archerd in 1969, and they remained together until his death.

Career

Army Archerd was a popular columnist for Daily Variety magazine, starting in 1953 and continuing until 2005. His column “Just for Variety” became well known in Hollywood, and he often hosted movie premieres at Mann’s Chinese Theater. He also received a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame in 1984 for his contributions to television.

Death and Legacy

Army Archerd passed away on September 8, 2009, in Los Angeles, California, due to mesothelioma, a rare form of lung cancer linked to his exposure to asbestos during his military service. He is buried at Hillside Memorial Park Cemetery in Culver City, California. His work and contributions to both film and television continue to be remembered and celebrated.
