Born on February 9, 1890, in San Jose, California, Artie Ortego was the son of Benjamin Ortega and Rosa Gardnos. He was married twice, first to Marie Manley from 1911 to 1916, and then to Billie Mack in 1917, with whom he had one child. His family life remained relatively private.
Death and Legacy
Artie Ortego passed away on July 24, 1960, in Burbank, California. His contributions to the film industry, particularly in Westerns and silent films, left a mark in the history of cinema. Although not widely known today, his roles helped shape early Hollywood’s representation of various characters.
