Barrie Hesketh was born John Barrie Hesketh on April 11, 1930, in Erdington, Birmingham, England. He was married twice; first to Marianne Hesketh from 1954 until her passing in 1984, and later to Philippa Comber in 2020, shortly before his death. He had three children from his first marriage.

Career

Hesketh trained at the Central School of Speech and Drama, where he met his first wife, and began his career in repertory theatre in places like Leeds and Manchester. He later transitioned to working with the BBC as a radio continuity announcer and appeared in several audio dramas. In 1963, he established the Mull Little Theatre on the Island of Mull in Scotland.
