Bernadette O’Farrell

Bernadette O’Farrell was an American actress best known for her roles in The Adventures of Robin Hood, Captain Boycott, and various St. Trinian’s films.

Personal and Family Life

Born on January 30, 1924, in Birr, County Offaly, Ireland, Bernadette was the daughter of a bank teller and an amateur actress. After attending a local convent school, she worked as a secretary until Sir Carol Reed invited her to audition for a film. She married Frank Launder in 1950 and they had two daughters together.

Career

Bernadette initially trained in ballet but chose to work in a solicitor’s office instead. She got her first significant acting role in Captain Boycott (1947) and later appeared in many films, including the popular St. Trinian’s series. Her portrayal of Maid Marian in The Adventures of Robin Hood (1955) earned her notable fame, particularly when the series found success in the U.S.

Death and Legacy

Bernadette O’Farrell passed away on September 26, 1999, in Monaco after a battle with cancer. She had retired from acting to focus on family life, living on a farm in Buckinghamshire and participating in local charities and theater in Monaco. Her contributions to film and theater are still remembered today.
