Boris Khmelnitskiy was born on June 27, 1940, in Ussuriisk, Russia. He came from a well-to-do family; his father was a high-ranking officer in the Soviet Red Army. He was married to Marianna Vertinskaya from 1976 until their divorce in 1980. They had one daughter, Darya Khmelnitskaya.

Career

Khmelnitskiy trained in music and acting, graduating as an orchestral conductor and an actor. He rose to fame after participating in significant films and performances at the renowned Taganka Theatre under director Yuriy Lyubimov. Khmelnitskiy was particularly well-known for his portrayal of Robin Hood in various adaptations, which earned him great popularity in the Soviet Union.

Death and Legacy

Boris Khmelnitskiy passed away on February 16, 2008, in Moscow due to a chronic heart ailment. He was honored as People’s Actor of Russia in 2000 and is remembered for his contributions to theatre and film. He is buried next to his parents in Kuntsevskoe Cemetery, leaving behind a lasting legacy in Russian performing arts.
