Born on December 20, 1942, in Bridgwater, Somerset, Carol Scott was originally named Carol Waterman. She adopted her professional name by combining her father’s name, Scott Waterman, with “Lee” since the name Carol Scott was already taken. She was married to Bill Ling from 1968 until his death in 2013, and the couple had two children together. After retiring, they lived in Spaxton, near her hometown.
