Carol was born Carol June Vosburgh and was one of four children to George and Martha Vosburgh. At the young age of 16, she got married for the first time, temporarily using the name Carol Lutzhoff before later changing her stage name to Richards in honor of her beloved nephew. She married Edward Swiedler in 1966, and they remained together until her passing in 2007.

Career

Carol began her performance career at just 4 years old but had a brief hiatus until she was 11 after her mother deemed her a “diva.” She was the singing voice for several well-known actresses in films during the 1950s, including Joan Caulfield in The Petty Girl and Cyd Charisse in Brigadoon and Silk Stockings. Carol gained recognition as a vivacious singer and recording artist, especially after winning a Bob Hope-sponsored talent contest in the early 1940s.

Carol Richards passed away on March 16, 2007, in Vero Beach, Florida, due to kidney failure.
