Born Sarah Catherine Green on June 20, 1875, in Marcus Hook, Pennsylvania, she was the daughter of Joshua E. Green and Clarinda Provost. Catherine was married to actor Paul Doucet from January 1918 until his death in October 1928. Before becoming an actress, she worked as a school teacher and began her stage career in 1906 with the production ‘Brown of Harvard’.

Career

Catherine Doucet started her acting career under the name Catherine Calhoun before adopting her husband’s surname in 1920. She gained fame primarily in comedy roles, with notable performances in ‘Miss Lulu Bett’ and as Ma Potter in ‘The Potters’. Her breakout film role was as Lily Mortar in ‘These Three’ (1936), which established her as a prominent character actress in Hollywood.
