Cec Linder was born Cecil Yekuthial Linder. In 1962, he married Joan Patricia Nuttall, and together they had two children. Linder had a sister named Vita Linder. Although he was born in Poland, he moved to Canada as a child, which influenced his career in acting.

He gained fame in the UK in 1958 when he stepped into the role of Captain Queeg in a live television broadcast of The Caine Mutiny Court Martial.
