He was married to Violette Fratellini, a member of the rival French clown family, from December 22, 1934, until his death. The couple had three children together. Charlie followed in the family tradition of clowning, as his father and sons were also clowns.

Charlie Cairoli passed away on February 17, 1980, in Blackpool, Lancashire, England. He spent 39 years performing in Blackpool, gaining popularity as a beloved circus clown. His legacy continues to live on through his family and the joy he brought to audiences during his long career.
