Clifford Evans was born on February 17, 1912, in Senghenydd, Caerphilly, Wales. He was educated at Llanelli County School and trained at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art (RADA), where he received scholarships. He was married to Hermione Hannen until her death in 1983. Clifford had a passion for chess and was known to be a conscientious objector during World War II.
Career
Evans began his acting career in 1930 and made his West End debut three years later. He enjoyed a successful 54-year career in the theatre and film industry. In 1951, he was appointed Director of Productions for Cardiff City Council during the Festival of Britain and founded the St David’s Theatre Trust in 1957, aiming to create a National Theatre for Wales. Additionally, he wrote the original screen story for the 1949 film A Run For Your Money.
