Clifford was born as John Clifford Rose and adopted the name “Clifford” from his birthplace. He was married to Celia Ryder from 1957 until her death in December 2012, and they had two children, Jonathan and Rosalind, as well as one grandchild, Charlie. His brother is David Rose, known for Confessions of a Window Cleaner, and his brother-in-law is Pamela Barrie from The Bill.

Career

He began his education at the King’s School in Worcester and then attended King’s College London. Rose performed in an impressive 36 of William Shakespeare’s 37 plays and gained fame as Sturmbannführer Ludwig Kessler in the BBC drama Secret Army. He also appeared in various popular shows like The Pallisers, Doctor Who, and G.B.H., showcasing his range as an actor throughout his extensive career.
