Conard Fowkes

Conard Fowkes was an American actor who is best known for his roles in Dark Shadows, Family Business, and Armstrong Circle Theatre. Born on January 4, 1933, in Washington, D.C., he built a successful career in acting that lasted over fifty years.

Conard Fowkes was married to former actress Jacqueline Hernly from 1957 until his death in 2009. Together, they had three daughters: Cly, Amy, and Katherine. Fowkes’ father served as a naval officer, while his mother supported his interest in the arts. He graduated from Yale University after winning a Navy scholarship, where he majored in history and the arts.

Career

Fowkes made his Broadway debut in the play “Howie” in 1958 and became a well-known actor in daytime television, appearing in several soap operas. He co-founded VITA to assist actors with tax-related issues and served on the Equity’s Council starting in 1973. His years of service to the acting community earned him the Patrick Quinn Award for Distinguished Service to Actors in May 2009.
