Cookie Mueller

Dorothy “Cookie” Mueller was an American actress best known for her roles in Pink Flamingos, Female Trouble, and Desperate Living.

Personal and Family Life

Cookie Mueller was born on August 1, 1949, in Baltimore, Maryland. She grew up in a family with two siblings, Michael and Judy. Cookie received her nickname “Cookie” in infancy. As a teenager, she often changed her hair color and embraced a free-spirited lifestyle, which included traveling across the country. She eventually married Italian artist Vittorio Scarpati in 1986.

Career

Mueller became a prominent figure in the underground film scene after meeting filmmaker John Waters. She appeared in five of his movies and was known for her writing career, contributing to various publications as a columnist and art critic. Cookie authored several works, including the memoir “Walking Through Clear Water in a Pool Painted Black.” She established herself in New York City, where her journalistic endeavors flourished alongside her acting.

Death and Legacy

Cookie Mueller passed away from AIDS-related complications on November 10, 1989, at the age of 40 in New York City. Her husband, Vittorio Scarpati, also died from AIDS just weeks earlier. After her death, her ashes were scattered in various locations worldwide, leaving behind a legacy in both film and literature that continues to influence artists and writers.
