Daniel Noble Cooke was an American actor known for his work in Dragnet (1987), and Deadly Honeymoon (2010). He was also a notable figure in the LAPD, serving in various specialized units and as a media relations officer.
Personal and Family Life
Cooke was born on November 23, 1926, in Oakland, California, but grew up in Brooklyn, New York. After a brief service in the Army during World War II, he moved to Santa Monica, where he met his future wife, Jane. The couple was married for 49 years and lived mainly in Tarzana before moving to Rancho Bernardo in 1993.
Career
Before joining the LAPD in 1953, Cooke worked in various roles, including a handicraft instructor and swimming instructor at the Santa Monica Boys’ Club. He served as a patrol officer before becoming a media relations officer in 1964, where he became well-known for his interactions with the media and major news stories. He retired in 1988 after dedicating 35 years to the LAPD.
Death and Legacy
Cooke was diagnosed with cancer in 1998, and after undergoing surgery, his condition worsened. He passed away at his home in Rancho Bernardo, California, on April 30, 1999, surrounded by his family. His legacy includes not only his contributions to the police department but also his appearances in film and television.
