Davy Kaye was an American actor who is best known for Chitty Chitty Bang Bang, Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland, and Sapphire & Steel.

Personal and Family Life

Davy Kaye was born David Kodeish on April 25, 1916, in London, England. He had East End Jewish roots and was known for his short stature, standing at just 4 feet 11 inches. He was married to Hazel Wilson, with whom he had one child, but they later divorced. Kaye was also a father to Kaplan Kaye and Melody Kaye.

Career

Kaye began his career in comedy, performing in variety and revue shows. He joined the BBC and became a popular late-night comedian at the Embassy Club in London from 1954 to 1968. Despite not serving in World War II due to his height, he made significant contributions to entertainment and was recognized with an MBE for his charity work.

Death and Legacy

Davy Kaye passed away on February 3, 1998, in Paradise Island, Bahamas. He left behind a legacy as a beloved comedian and actor, celebrated for his work in film and television. He was honored by the Variety Club of Great Britain for his long-lasting impact in show business.
