There, he became involved in music by forming a singing group called ‘The 4 Esquires’ and later joined the original Pied Pipers, known for working with Jo Stafford and the Tommy Dorsey Orchestra.

Throughout his career, Whittinghill was notably a morning disc jockey for the Los Angeles radio station KMPC from 1950 to 1979.
