Dolph Sweet was born Adolphus Jean Sweet on July 18, 1920, in New York City, to John W. Sweet and Louisa Brasser. He was married twice; his first marriage was to Reba Gillespie from 1960 until their divorce in 1973, with whom he had one son. He later married actress Iris Braun in 1974, a union that lasted until his death in 1985.
