In 1944, she married the famous costume designer William Travilla, and they had one daughter named Nia Novella.

Initially, Dona used various stage names, including Rita Rio, as she navigated her career. She gained recognition for her performances in Broadway shows and films, especially after appearing in “Strike Me Pink” alongside Eddie Cantor.
