Dorothea Baird was born on May 20, 1875, in Teddington, England. She was married to H.B. Irving from July 20, 1896, until his death on October 17, 1919. The couple had two children, including designer Laurence Irving and actress Elizabeth Irving. Her father was John Forster Baird.

Career

Baird made her first stage appearance in February 1894 with the Oxford University Dramatic Society, playing ‘Iris’ in “The Tempest.” She was the original Trilby in Herbert Beerbohm Tree’s 1895 production and created the role of Mrs. Darling in the 1904 stage adaptation of “Peter Pan.” In 1911, she and her husband starred together in the silent film “Princess Clementina.”

Death and Legacy

Dorothea Baird passed away on September 24, 1933, in Broadstairs, England. Her contributions to theater and film, particularly in her iconic roles, have left a lasting impact. She is remembered for her pioneering spirit in acting and for paving the way for future generations of performers.
