Dorothy obtained a liberal arts degree from UCLA in 1955. She worked for fifteen years as a business systems analyst before shifting her career to the legal field, where she spent twenty-five years as a legal secretary, legal assistant, and paralegal. In 1997, she became disabled due to a spinal injury and retired, living in Sun City, Arizona.
