Dorothy Seastrom was an American actress who is best known for her roles in films such as The Call of the Canyon, It Must Be Love, and Pretty Ladies.

Personal and Family Life

Dorothy was born Dorothy Susan Seastrunk on March 16, 1903, in Dallas, Texas. She had a father named Preston Seastrunk, who worked as a bookkeeper. During her teenage years, she gained fame by winning a beauty contest and spent some time living in Chicago before moving to Los Angeles. On October 18, 1924, she married actor and director Francis Corby, but they kept their marriage private from the press.

Career

After moving to Los Angeles, Dorothy started her career by dancing at the Ambassador Hotel. She made her film debut in 1923 with The Call of the Canyon and quickly became Lloyd Hamilton’s leading lady in several short films. Her distinctive taffy-colored hair earned her the affectionate nickname “The Candy Kid.” Despite achieving success, she faced health issues after being placed under a weight clause by her contract, resulting in her battle with tuberculosis.

Death and Legacy

Dorothy’s health deteriorated over time, leading her to return to Texas. In January 1930, she contracted influenza, which escalated into pneumonia. Tragically, Dorothy passed away on January 31, 1930, at the age of 26. She was buried at Grove Hill Memorial Park in Dallas, Texas, leaving behind a legacy that is remembered despite her brief career.
