Duncan Carse

Duncan Carse was an American actor known for his roles in “Penny and the Pownall Case,” “Look,” and “The White Continent.” He was also recognized as a polar explorer and broadcaster.

Personal and Family Life

Duncan Carse was born Werner Duncan Carse on July 28, 1913, in Fulham, London. He had three marriages: first to Bertha Sylvia Hadfield with whom he had two children, then to an unknown spouse with one child, and finally to Ann Venetia Carse until his death. He was also the father of continuity announcer and model Liz Carse, later known as Liz Lewis.

Professional Life

Aside from acting, Carse organized and led the South Georgia Survey between 1951 and 1957, which aimed to map remote islands in the Southern Atlantic. His efforts were significant during the 1982 Falklands War, leading to two locations being named in his honor: Carse Point and Mount Carse. From September 1949 to October 1950, he portrayed the lead role in the BBC radio series “Dick Barton: Special Agent.”

Death and Legacy

Duncan Carse passed away on May 2, 2004, in Chichester, West Sussex, from natural causes. His contributions as an explorer and broadcaster are still remembered, especially in relation to the landmarks named after him in the South Atlantic.
