Edana was born as Edana Rubenstein and was trained as a dancer. She first performed on stage in Johannesburg in 1930 and studied at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Arts in 1935-1936. Edana married John Woolf in 1946, but they divorced in 1955. Throughout her life, she spent time in Beverly Hills and lived in a mansion known as The Hacienda.
