Edward was the eldest child of Joseph and Sarah Jane Coxen. He immigrated to the United States with his family in 1882, settling in San Francisco. In 1914, he married Edith Borella, a fellow actress known for her roles in films. The couple lived in Los Angeles and did not have any children.
Career
Coxen began his acting career on the stage in San Francisco before moving to New York in 1909. He became known as Edward or Ed Coxen and gained popularity as a leading actor in films during the silent film era. In 1912, he joined American Film Manufacturing Company’s Studios and appeared in numerous films, including some noted successes alongside actress Winifred Greenwood.
Death and Legacy
Edward Coxen passed away on November 21, 1954, in Los Angeles and was laid to rest at Forest Lawn Memorial Park in Glendale, California. He had a long career with more than 150 films and stage performances, leaving behind a legacy that contributed to the early development of Hollywood.
