Edwin Apps was born on May 14, 1931, in Wingham, Kent, England. He experienced the marital breakup of his parents and was evacuated to Cornwall during World War II. Edwin was married to Pauline Devaney from 1958 until their divorce in 1981, and they had one child together. The couple sometimes wrote scripts under the pseudonym John Wraith.

Career

Edwin began his career at the age of seventeen in a repertory company in northern England, though he interrupted his acting to serve in the national service. After training at the Central School of Speech and Drama, he returned to the stage and participated in live television. He gained recognition for his role as a character actor and for writing several episodes of the BBC comedy “All Gas and Gaiters.”

Death and Legacy

Edwin Apps passed away on April 16, 2021, in Liez, France, due to bone cancer. He had moved to France in 1976 with his wife and primarily focused on painting, creating satirical artworks featuring bishops in unconventional scenarios. His legacy includes his contributions to theatre, television, and the arts, along with his published memoirs that reflect his unique life experiences.
