Born on April 9, 1910, in Skegness, Lincolnshire, Elizabeth Allan began her career in acting at a young age, making her stage debut at 17. She was married to Wilfred J. O’Bryen from June 6, 1932, until his death in 1977. Before she became an actress, Allan briefly worked as a kindergarten teacher.

Allan made her film debut in 1931 with Alibi and quickly gained recognition. In the 1930s, she appeared in notable films such as David Copperfield and A Tale of Two Cities. After facing challenges with her MGM contract, she continued to find success in character roles in the 1950s and appeared on the popular TV show What’s My Line.
