Elizabeth Dawn

Sylvia Butterfield MBE, known professionally as Elizabeth Dawn, was an English actress who is best known for her role as Vera Duckworth in the long-running British soap opera Coronation Street. She began her career in 1974 and became a beloved character on the show, remaining in the cast for over three decades. In recognition of her work, she received numerous awards, including a Lifetime Achievement Award at the 2008 British Soap Awards.

Personal and Family Life

Born on November 8, 1939, in Leeds, West Yorkshire, Elizabeth Dawn started her career as a nightclub singer before transitioning to acting in the late 1960s. She was married twice, first to Walter Bradley, with whom she had one child, and later to Don Ibbetson, with whom she had three children. Dawn learned sign language to communicate with her deaf fans and took her stage name from her daughter, Dawn Elizabeth.
