Ellen Hartman-Cederström was a Swedish actress, born on July 31, 1860, in Stockholm, Sweden. She is best known for her role in the silent film The Saga of Gösta Berling (1924).
Personal and Family Life
Ellen was also known by her birth name, Helena Elisabeth Florentina Hedlund. She was married twice, first to Victor Hartman from 1881 until their divorce in 1891, and later to Count Carl Gustaf Bror Cederström, starting in 1898. She had one son, Gustaf Herman Hedlund, born in 1880.
Career
Ellen made her stage debut in 1877 and attended the Royal Theatre’s drama school from 1878 to 1880. She became a premiere actress at the Royal Dramatic Theatre in 1886. Her career flourished as she toured Russia with Coquelin from 1891 to 1893 and worked in Paris at Théâtre Vaudeville from 1893 to 1894. After that, she returned to work in Sweden.
Death and Legacy
Ellen Hartman-Cederström passed away on January 4, 1945, in her hometown of Stockholm, Sweden. Although she was one of the most celebrated Swedish comediennes from the 1880s to the 1920s, she featured in only one film, leaving behind a legacy primarily rooted in her stage performances.
