Else was born into a creative family, being the daughter of Norwegian painter Fritz Thaulow. She moved to Denmark when she was just three years old. She was married twice, first to Louis Frölich, with whom she toured Scandinavia, and then to A.W. Sandberg, with whom she had one child, Henrik Sandberg, who went on to be a successful producer.

Frölich made her film debut in 1911 with Nordisk Film and quickly rose to fame alongside popular co-stars like Valdemar Psilander and Anton de Verdier. Her performances in romantic dramas showcased her chubby and erotic persona. As her career progressed, she transitioned to writing stories and screenplays, diversifying her contributions to the film industry.
