Eric Lander

Personal and Family Life

Eric Lander was born as Arthur Eric Lander and spent most of his childhood in the North Midlands of England. He was educated at Penrose School in Derby, where he first discovered his passion for acting through school plays. He was often cast in female roles as a child due to his unbroken voice. He was married twice, first to Roberta Woolley, from whom he divorced, and later to Janet Mills, with whom he stayed until his death in 1999.

Career

Eric began his acting career after World War II, studying for two years at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art (RADA). He performed in various repertory theaters across the UK and gained experience in minor roles at Stratford. Lander appeared in 30 to 40 television plays, most notably as Dr. Mansen in “The Citadel” and Detective Sgt. Baxter in “No Hiding Place”, which he played for five years. His final acting role was in a stage play in 1986, after which he retired due to a stroke.
