Esther Carena was originally named Franziska Lucia Pfeiffer. She was married to art director Franz Schroedter. After spending time in Italy, where she performed sketches, she returned to Germany in 1916, where she started making a name for herself in the film industry thanks to the support of actor Nils Chrisander.
