Estrellita Anastasia Bernier was born on May 5, 1914, in Venezuela to a French father and a Venezuelan mother. At the age of two, her family moved to Harlem, where she received her education in New York City. She had one child with her husband, Apus, who passed away in June 1971.
Career
After starting her career in the chorus lines of famous venues, Estrellita gained fame through her comedic dance act with Apus. They spent thirty-two years performing on the TOBA circuit and entertained troops in USO shows during World War II. Following the war, Estrellita chose to retire from show business to pursue a career in hospital administration, applying her academic background in biology.
