Frances Howard was born on June 4, 1903, in Omaha, Nebraska. She married famed Hollywood producer Samuel Goldwyn after a brief courtship of just 48 hours in 1925. The couple had one child together, Samuel Goldwyn Jr. She was the grandmother of actor and director Tony Goldwyn, as well as Paramount Studios president John Goldwyn.
Early Career
Frances attended a convent school and made her stage debut on Broadway at age 21 in the production “The Intimate Stranger.” Shortly after, she signed a contract with Paramount Pictures but had it canceled after just three films. Following her marriage to Goldwyn, she stepped away from acting for many years but remained a beloved figure in Hollywood.
Death and Legacy
Frances Howard passed away on July 2, 1976, in Beverly Hills, California. She was buried at Forest Lawn Memorial Park in Glendale, California, next to George Cukor, the director with whom she had an unrequited love. Her contributions to early cinema and her ties to prominent Hollywood families have left a lasting impact on the film industry.
