His stepdaughter is the actress Irmgard Riessen. After completing his education at the Academy for Music and Performing Arts in Vienna, he started his professional career in 1924.
Career
Eckhardt’s career began at the Wilhelma Theater in Stuttgart, where he debuted in theater. He transitioned to film, making his screen debut in the silent movie “Rosenkavalier” in 1926. After fleeing to America during World War II due to his half-Jewish descent, he found success as a radio playwright before returning to Europe. He became well-known for his role in “Hello… Hotel Sacher, Portier!” and wrote over 30 plays and more than 200 television and film scripts throughout his career.
