Frunzik Mkrtchyan was an Armenian actor known for his roles in Aybolit-66, Kidnapping, Caucasian Style, and Mimino. He is celebrated as one of the most prominent comedy actors in the Soviet Union and recognized internationally for his contributions to Armenian cinema.

Frunze Musheghi Mkrtchyan was born on July 4, 1930, in Leninakan, Armenian SSR. He was married three times, first to Donara Mkrtchyan with whom he had two children, then to Knara, and later to Tamar Hovhannisyan. His family life experienced ups and downs, as he went through divorces and separations throughout his years.

Career

Frunzik studied at Leninakan Art College and the Yerevan Institute of Fine Arts and Theatre, graduating from the Acting Department. He joined the Sundukyan Drama Theatre in Yerevan in 1953 and directed many successful productions, including Maxim Gorky’s “The Lower Depths.” His film career began with a notable role in 1955, leading to iconic performances in multiple films that showcased both his comedic talent and deep emotional range.

Frunzik Mkrtchyan passed away on December 29, 1993, in Yerevan, Armenia, after battling cancer.
