Gareth Hughes was born on August 23, 1894, in Llanelli, Wales. He began acting at an early age and moved to London at 17 to pursue his dreams. He joined the Welsh Players and toured America, eventually deciding to stay and build his career in the U.S.

Hughes enjoyed notable success on Broadway and appeared in many films between 1918 and 1931. He was especially proud of his role in “Sentimental Tommy,” which he considered his most successful film. His remains are interred at the Masonic garden of remembrance in Reno, Nevada.
