Gary Bond

Gary James Bond was an English actor and singer, best known for his roles in “Wake in Fright,” “Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat,” and “Zulu.” He was born on February 7, 1940, in Liss, Hampshire, England.

Personal and Family Life

Gary Bond was born into a family that worked in industrial and military jobs. Despite this background, he aspired to become an actor from a young age. After the death of his father in December 1955, he pursued his passion for acting, attending Churcher’s College and later earning a scholarship to the Central School of Speech and Drama.

Career

Gary made his stage debut in 1962 and followed it with a television debut in 1963. He gained recognition for his role as Private Cole in the film “Zulu” (1964) and continued to perform in theatre and television throughout the 1960s. Some of his notable musical credits include playing Joseph in “Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat” and Che in “Evita.”

Death and Legacy

Gary Bond passed away on October 12, 1995, from complications related to AIDS, in Ealing, London. He is remembered fondly by his friends and fans for his contributions to both stage and screen, particularly his role in “Wake in Fright,” which was celebrated in a restored release in 2009.
