Gavin Arthur was born Chester Alan Arthur III on March 21, 1901, in Colorado Springs, Colorado. He was the grandson of the 21st President of the United States. Throughout his life, he was married three times: to Charlotte Arthur, Esther K. Strachey, and Ellen Margaret Jansen.

Career

Arthur served in the US Navy during World War II and became a significant figure in California’s early communes. He held various roles, including secretary of the California State Democratic Committee and educator at San Quentin prison. He published several works on sexuality, with his notable book, The Circle of Sex, first released in 1962.
