Geoffrey Beene was born Samuel Albert Bozeman Jr. on August 30, 1927, in Haynesville, Louisiana. He had a sister named Barbara Anne Wellman, who resides in Conroe, Texas. Initially, Beene aimed to pursue a career in medicine at Tulane University but found his passion in fashion when he started sketching while in class.

Career Highlights

Beene began his career by working as an assistant in the display department of I. Magnin, a clothing store in Los Angeles. His talent was quickly recognized, leading him to design for Teal Traina in 1954. By 1963, he had launched his own fashion company, which gained immediate success and is celebrated for its creativity.

Geoffrey Beene passed away on September 28, 2004, in Manhattan, New York, due to complications from pneumonia. His legacy endures in the fashion industry, and April 27 is celebrated as “Geoffrey Beene Day” in his home state of Louisiana.
